About this School
The Social Sciences Programme is a component of General Studies Programme, an innovation that gives University of Nigeria a unique character. Social Sciences as one of the programmes in the General Studies became a Unit and was launched along with the other three components in the 1961 / 1962 academic session. The programme focuses not only on how a person lives in the society but also how one ought to live.
The social sciences courses are developed to inspire the students' interest in the study of man and his relationships in society; to expose the students to the principles and theories of the social science disciplines and to equip the students with the knowledge of their environment and how to exploit the natural resources to improve the conditions of existence. The courses are offered to students, specializing in all the university faculties minus the social sciences faculty.
